International news.

“I hope by now that all those who have been to either the Jamboree, Ireland, Denmark or Sweden have had the chance to
spread the word about their adventures amongst Guiding friends, and will do a bit more in the coming new term to
encourage others to join in for what is on offer next year. Here are just a few snaps from reports that I have had so far.

  • Denmark – meeting the Mermaid, woodcraft and making knives, catching your own trout for supper, hiking, cooking with
fire pits, face painting, trying the pioneering carousel…..

  • Irelandusing Ryanair for the first time and surviving the weather !, Emma and Sarah almost rolling in the peat bogs,
sightseeing around Dublin by land and sea in the `duck` vehicle. International craft afternoon, huge camp fires.

  • Sweden – more woodcraft, water sports, boating, sailing, a really well equipped scout hut on a lake, outside
Stockholm which we might well visit again next year it was so good.

Most of all it is about

  • making new friends, both from home and abroad, and I know from personal experience that some of
  • these friendships will last a lifetime
  • trying new crafts, hobbies and skill
  • learning about and sharing in different cultures and traditions
  • eating foreign food is not everyone’s cup of tea, but there is always a choice !
  • seeing new places
  • going somewhere that perhaps the family would not
  • and all in the name of Girlguiding of course.

Helen and I are now busy searching for more exciting things to do in 2008, and I do hope that we shall see lots of you
at the selection day on October 6th for adults, and 21st for girls.

The necessary forms are all on the County website in the International section, so please get busy – they are quite easy
really - and I look forward to getting a lot of mail whilst I am away Sept 15 – 30th. any queries during that time, do ask
Helen. I will contact everyone to confirm precise details for the days.

There`s no need to make a formal commitment on the day, just come to find out more about what is happening – hopefully
you will not want to say `no`.

See you all soon I hope.
